Non Profits: General Data Protection Regulation: why it’s your priority

This is the first of our breakfast briefings series for 2018. The briefings will be run by experts from our Non Profit unit and are designed to address the key issues facing those in the sector.

The deadline for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to replace the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) is fast approaching. The impact of this change is extensive and wide-ranging, with specific considerations for charities in how they obtain, store, process and destroy data. Failure to comply runs the risk of both financial and reputational damage.

This session will reiterate the key principles of GDPR and provide insight and lessons learnt from our work with charities in preparing for GDPR readiness. In addition, we will discuss key points of concern for charities and the approaches being adopted to address them, including sensitive and beneficiary data.
